Juan Soto is now a member of the New York Yankees
Soto's contract runs until the end of the 2024 season. The Yankees will likely attempt to sign the 25-year-old to an extension.
The San Diego Padres have traded former Hagerstown Suns outfielder Juan Soto to the New York Yankees in a multiplayer swap.
The Padres traded Juan Soto along with outfielder Trent Grisham to the Yankees for Michael King, Jhony Brito Randy Vasquez, Drew Thorpe, and Kyle Higashioka.
Soto's contract runs until the end of the 2024 season. The Yankees will likely attempt to sign the 25-year-old to an extension. I'm not sure an extension would necessarily behoove Soto. He might want to test the free agent market, although I cannot see a situation where the Yankees would not be the most motivated buyer for Soto's baseball playing services. Yankee Stadium with its short right field fence (314 feet) creates the perfect setting for left-handed power hitters like Soto.
If Juan Soto does become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season, I cannot imagine a team wanting him more than the Yankees. This just seems like a perfect fit.
